In August of 2002, Paul Szwed was awarded
his D.Sc. in Engineering
Management from the George Washington university under the direction
of J. Rene van Dorp. His dissertation topic was "A
Bayesian Model for Risk Assessment using Expert Judgments about Paired
Scenario Comparisons" He also holds an M.Eng. in Naval Architecture
& Offshore Engineering and an M.S. in Industrial Engineering &
Operations Research from the University of California at Berkeley and
an B.S. in Ocean Engineering from the U.S. Coast Guard Academy.
Paul S. Szwed is Commander in the U.S.
Coast Guard. He served as an engineering manager at their Marine Safety
Center in Washington, D.C. where he oversees a team responsible for
conducting design reviews of commercial vessel designs. He has served
in the Coast Guard since 1986 and has performed a variety of marine
safety, security, and environmental protection positions around the
country.
Beginning in the Fall of 2003, Paul S.
Szwed joined the Decision and Information Science section in the Department
of Management at the U.S. Coast Guard
Academy in New London, CT where he teaches quantitative methods
and operations research. Currently, Paul. S. Szwed holds the position
of Associate Professor and is head of the department of Management.
