Homework 1: Project options

We would like to have all your project selections made early so that you have time to flesh out some confidence-building details in preparation for your delivery of the project next year.

At this time, you will explore some high-level aspects of your project such as:

What would the final demo look like?
What are similar projects/products?
What tools or hardware would be needed, and how much do they cost?
What skills would you need to pursue the project?
What do you see as the technical challenges?

To help you get started, we will email you a list of project ideas.

What you need to do next is to focus on at least two ideas and take them to the next step by answering the questions above. You can pick two ideas from our list, or one of your own and one from the list. You can pick three if you like, if you aren't able to decide, but at least one needs to be from our list. If one of the projects is your own idea, we need a description like the ones we've given, in addition to answers to the above bullets.

Next, to create more flexibility, we're going to ask that you list a total of three areas of interest from the list of project ideas. These include "compilers/languages", "systems" etc. List the three areas (without naming projects) whether or not the areas include the above two project ideas.

Finally, if you are unsure about which project to choose, and would like us to help you with the choice, please say so.
