Now for a few odds and ends that don't really belong in any of the earlier categories. They're all going to be rescued in the catch-all Miscellaneous category.
First are a couple of pictures of stage lighting equipment and their guardians. I spent a good four years doing stage lighting for all kinds of events and was therefore glad to meet two people from those times. Bahadur (on the left) and Ram Nivas now run the show. Student participation appears to be much less than in our time, when lighting was taken seriously inspite of the rudimentary equipment. Bahadur is also a great example of how BITS helps people escape their otherwise dim prospects: his two sons, educated in BITS, are now doing extremely well. He himself has learnt to use email to keep in touch with them.
Modern technology has made its way here too.
We used to lug 20-pound dimmers (on the left above)
to the Audi, ET, and other places and laboriously
set up lighting controls. This has all been replaced
by the handy black-box on the right, in front of
Ram Nivas.
The heavy, old spots are also gone. Instead, shiny new and lightweight lights (Bahadur is holding one) do the job better. Here's a view of the stage lights currently mounted in the Audi:
Under construction now is the forthcoming Student Union
complex. It is large, spacious and, well, a tad tacky in
design. It already houses a new gym, and will have
rooms for all the clubs as well as a brand new auditorium.
Will this spell the end for the Audi?
Wandering around in the M-Block, we came across
students painting large murals. They download images
from the internet (This one has a Star Wars theme)
and enlarge them through painting-by-squares.
To a fault, the students were all friendly and
cheerfully submitted to our many questions.
Lastly, a random picture.
