WELCOME

Thank you for visiting my page. I currently hold an Assistant Professor position at the George Washington University. I am interested with the development of systems engineering and risk analysis tools for managing disaster consequences on interdependent infrastructure and economic systems. Results of my research activities are documented in more than 40 archival papers (see Publications).

I completed my Ph.D. degree in Systems and Information Engineering at the University of Virginia (UVa) in 2003. Prior to my Ph.D. studies at the University of Virginia in 1999, I served as a faculty member of the University of the Philippines for 5 years, where I was also conferred my undergraduate and MS degrees in Industrial Engineering. Directly after obtaining my Ph.D. degree, I was given the opportunity to extend my dissertation research at the UVa Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems.

I expect my long-term professional career to converge in a scholarly environment where I can immerse in a well-balanced mix of research and teaching activities. I constantly seek to improve the quality of my teaching and research. I draw my inspiration from my mother (my first teacher), as well as my former professors, classmates, and students who have significantly helped in shaping my academic career.

My undergraduate students (Zachary Graybill, Dor Hirsh Bar Gai, Annali Slyder, John Sorensen, and Paule Voevedsky) developed a video to explain the shortest path problem. This video project resulted from the course "Quantitative Models for Systems Engineering" (EMSE 3850) at the George Washington University, Department of Engineering Management and Systems Engineering.
