PRESS RELEASE: iGov Philippines
US-based Pinoy IT expert to share knowledge with iGovPhil
A noted US-based Filipino expert in risk management and engineering systems will be sharing his knowledge to the proponents and stakeholders of the Integrated Government Philippines (iGovPhil) Project, which seeks to centralize the government's ICT systems.
Prof. Joost Santos, an Assistant Professor at the George Washington University, will have a two-day lecture on Aug. 3 and 8, 2012, entitled "Documenting and Monitoring Information Security Requirements and Practices" at the ICTO-NCC Building in UP Diliman.
Prof. Santos, who received his Ph.D. degree in Systems and Information Engineering from the University of Virginia in 2003, is a Research Assistant Professor at UVa’s Center for Risk Management of Engineering Systems, where he is actively involved in various projects dealing with risk analysis and optimization of complex large-scale systems.
A primary author or key contributor to more than 10 technical reports and journal articles, Prof. Santos had also led several risk management studies commissioned by agencies such as the Department of Homeland Security, Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), National Science Foundation, and NASA.
Prof. Santos is also in the Philippines through DOST Balik Scientist Program. Originally established in 1975, the program aims to support and strengthen the scientific and technological human resources in the country and reverse the effects of migration of skilled workers by encouraging Filipino scientists and technicians to return to the country and share their expertise and promote scientific, and economic development.
The iGovPhil Project, which had a soft launch last June, aims to come up with a type of Government Cloud where agencies can integrate and share data and enable online services for government agencies involved in transactions with the public.
A project under DOST-ICTO (NCC & TelOf) and DOST-ASTI, the iGovPhil Project aims to address the basic needs of the government for transparency, efficiency and governance by using and putting relevant mechanisms to implement interactive, interconnected and inter-related government applications.
Dr. Santos provided IT Security Workshop to the National Computer Center of the Philippines. He will be included in iGovPhil initiative (eQuality Network of Educators)
Thanks to DOST Balik Scientist Program fellowship for making this collaboration happen.
