This paper studies the impact of inventory on the recovery of interdependent sectors. Input-output models help identify critical sectors based on inoperability and economic loss. A dynamic prioritization tool allows preference structure elicitation. A Virginia case study reveals a high concentration of: (i) manufacturing sectors under the inoperability objective, and (ii) service sectors under the loss objective. The approach is flexible and can be applied to other regions and scenarios.
Joanna Resurreccion, doctoral student in GWU Engineering Management and Systems Engineering, presented her research in INFORMS on November 12, 2011 (Charlotte, NC). Her presentation is part of a session on 'Decision Making in interdependent Systems' organized by Dr. Kash Barker of University of Oklahoma.
