20 - SPRING 2000 - MIDTERM DESIGN PROJECT (10 points)
Description:
You are an engineer at CFZ Electronics
Inc. (www.cfz.com) working on
the new built-in speaker of a new laptop computer. Your first project (midterm)
is to design and test the amplifier circuit whose specifications are as
follows:
Specifications:

The power supply is
+/- 12 Vdc.

The load is an 8 Ohm
speaker with a power rating of 0.2 Watts.

The source is a 250
mV (peak) sinusoid from the function generator. This is for testing purposes
only. You will receive a bonus of 5
points if your boss hears the music.

Gain of at least 8 V/V
over the frequency range of 300 Hz - 10 kHz (without distortion).

For testing purposes
some volume control is required.

Week after Spring

You are required to have a:

Professional
project report and hand it in prior to your presentation.

10 minute presentation
with 5 minute question and answer period. All presentations must be done
with Power Point. An example of Power Point presentation can be downloaded
here.

Complete working circuit demonstration and
explanation of features.

Note to ECE 297 students: The midterm
project is an extra 5 points (5% of your grade) if it is demonstrated in
P-Spice and 10 points (10% of your grade) if it is demonstrated with a
working circuit.
The boss is under heavy pressure from the
board to complete the project on time. Therefore, a project which does
not meet the specifications or is late will result in a failing
grade.
