Invited Panelist at Annual Conference of Vaccinology Research

Abstract

Social media have shown significant promise for health surveillance. Simultaneously, the same media serve as a forum for the spread of significant health disinformation, especially pertaining to vaccines. To what extent can social media be trusted as a reliable indicator of public opinion regarding vaccination? This presentation will review state of the art findings, methods, techniques, successes, and pitfalls of social media pertaining to vaccination, and highlight opportunities and challenges for public health officials, researchers, and members of the public.
