CS 701: Electronic Commerce
Final Report and Presentation Guidelines
Final Written Report: Due April 26th
The report, at most 6 pages, should include:
- Summary of business plan
- Description of your participation in the marketplace
- What payment systems did you accept and why?
- Questions or problems group attempted to answer (technical, legal, policy, etc.), and how these issues addressed and resolved.
- Brief review of similar businesses and how yours is different.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses of your business.
- Identify strengths and weaknesses of your technology.
- How could your project be improved? What would you do if you had more time?
- A clear explanation of who-did-what in your team.
- Website location and instructions for testing your product
In an appendix ( beyond the 6 pages above), include:
- A revised Business Plan and revised Marketing Plan
(responding to comments made on the first submission of each).
- Instructions on using the site.
- Work-flow diagrams of your solution (from Phase I)
- Each student in the team should add one small personal section to
the group report. This should contain (a) their experience with the
marketplace and (b) their evaluation of teamwork.
- Instructions on how to view source code.
- Important: Create the following items electronically,
and make them available to Prof. Simha:
(1) a gzipped tar file containing everything that is required to run
the site (source code, JSP's, class files, HTML etc).
(2) a detailed list of instructions aimed at the "dummy user"
that will describe how to set up the site, starting from un-zipping
the file. For example, be sure to include database instructions.
The reason for this requirement is: we would like to continue
displaying your site after the semester to demonstrate the class
products to various interested parties (ecommerce courses in
universities). The sites can remain passworded. If you have plans
to actually turn your ideas into a real business and seek protection
of your idea, then discuss this issue with Prof. Simha.
Project Presentations: April 19 and 26th
The presentation is to be a business-like presentation: students are encouraged to come prepared to make a formal presentation.
- The presentation should include a discussion of all of the elements included in your group written report. You may also be asked to demonstrate your project.
- The presentation can be done by an individual or by the team as a whole – however, all team members must be present during the presentation.
- Each team will have a maximum of 30 minutes for their presentation
and discussion (i.e., including questions from the evaluators and
instructors). As a result, it is strongly recommended that each
team prepare a presentation that takes no more than 22
minutes.
- All students need to attend every presentation.
- There will a connected laptop in the classroom:
You need to email your presentations to Prof. Simha by 5pm Thursday
April 19th.
- You are welcome to access and use your site during your
presentation.
- It would be wise to come prepared with backups for various
failure scenarios (projector not working, network connection not
working etc).
- There will also be a peer evaluation of presentations.
Presentation schedule:
- April 19th: Blue, Green, Orange.
- April 26th: Red, Yellow.
