Implementing the Tenth Strand - Page 17 of 18
Conclusions
We believe that this second report of Project ImpactCS provides the learning
objectives and some practical strategies for implementing a tenth subject into the computer
science curriculum so that undergraduate students of computer science will receive a
well-grounded presentation of the ethical and social issues in computing. We have
delineated five new knowledge units with the lecture topics and laboratory activities needed
to implement them. We have suggested new pedagogical strategies for presenting this
material and have provided information on resources for professors who teach the material.
The final report will present several curriculum models in detail and will provide more
information on innovative teaching strategies to make this materials relevant to the rest of
their computer science study. Finally, we will suggest a faculty development model to
prepare computer science professors for the task of teaching this new subject area. All of
this effort is aimed at making a positive impact on the teaching and practice of computer
science in the next decade.
